How Does It Work?
What Should I Bring?
Proof of Income:
Bringing in pay stubs from your job, self-employment earnings, and other forms of income (workers compensation, retirement, child support, social security, etc) will help the attorney understand under what chapter of bankruptcy you will be eligible to file. Also, you may need to provide income proof for the last 6 months, if possible.
Income Tax Returns:
Typically, bringing in documentation for the last 2 years is the most helpful. Also, you should be sure that your taxes are filed and current if you plan to file.
List of Your Debts:
This will include credit cards, medical bills, mortgage, vehicle, personal loans, and other outstanding loans or monies owed. Also, if you have received a summons or notification of being sued (lawsuit), it is very important to let your attorney know. So, if you are able, bring this documentation as well.
Household Expenses:
This includes a list of necessary living expenses, debt payments, charitable contributions, retirement, and insurance premiums.
